Critically Low on Storage Error

If you have been receiving this error on your Firestick or Fire TV, then you know how annoying it is – due to how regularly it pops up – and how much slower it can make your device run.

In order to remove this problem, you will need to do some “spring cleaning” on your device.

In this guide, we will show you step-by-step, some of the processes you can use to free up storage space on your device to prevent this error from showing again.

Clearing the Cache on All Apps 

This involves manually clearing the cache (or data stored by a particular app), for each app, manually, using the Amazon Settings. 

Press the Home button to return to the Amazon Fire TV home menu.

Select Manage Installed Applications.

Select an app to clear its cache.

If your device doesn’t work correctly, repeat this process and select Clear data. Some apps, like Firefox, also allow you to Clear cookies. Clear the cache on all of the Apps which have more than 1.00 MB of cached data.

To clear additional caches, press the back button on your remote, select a different app, and then select Clear cache for each additional app.

Removing Unrequired Apps

Your Firestick device probably has a lot of apps downloaded which you don’t use or need to run your streaming services. This part of the guide will show you how to delete these unnecessary apps to free up disk space.

1. From the home screen of your device,  scroll to the right to hover over Settings and then Click Applications

3. Scroll down and click on the application you want to delete

That’s it! Your app has been removed freeing up precious space on your Amazon Device. Repeat this process to remove any apps that are not required for your streaming service bundle. 

Erasing DVR’d Content from IPTV Smarters

This involves deleting any content which you have recorded from your IPTV subscription via IPTV Smarters.

From the home screen on your device, open the IPTV Smarters App.

Select the “Recordings” icon from the top right of the screen.

Select the file you wish to delete, click the “OK/Enter” button on your remove, then scroll down and select “Delete”

Select “Yes” when prompted if you are sure you wish to delete the file.

Repeat this process for all of the recordings shown in IPTV smarters.

Erasing Downloaded Movies or Video Content

You can use MX Player Pro to search your device and list all video content stored on your Firestick, and then delete it.

Open MX Player Pro and you will see a list of folders which contain video files on your device. If you have more than one folder, you will need to repeat this process for each folder. Click on the ok/select button on your remote to open the folder.

On the next screen you will see a list of the video files found on your device, to select a video file, scroll down the video you wish to delete and then long-press / hold the OK/select button on your remote until the video file has a checkmark on it and a new menu appears at the bottom of the screen.

Scroll down to the trash can icon and click ok/select on your remote.

Anothe pop up will appear confirming you want to permenantly delete the file, click “OK”

Repeat this process for all video files found on your device which you no longer need.

Deleting APK Files

APK files are no longer needed once you have installed the app, so by downloading ES File Explorer, you can locate and delete all of the APK files stored on your device to free up more storage space.

From the home screen on your device, select the lens /search icon icon in the top-left corner

– Type the name of the app ES File Explorer

– ES File Explorer will appear in the search results when you have typed the first few letters

Once the app is open, click Local > Home (2nd one) in the left menu OR click where it says Internal Storage on the top

3- FireStick folders appear on the right. Open the folder in which the files you need to delete are stored. The main folders will likely be DCIM, Download, Downloader, Movies, Music, and Pictures.


4- Select the file you wish to delete (say an APK file)

Note: DO NOT click the selected file

5- Now, hold down the Select button on your FireStick remote (the circular button) until the checkmark appears on the bottom-right of the file

6- Navigate to the bottom menu of ES File Explorer and click Delete

7- Uncheck Move to recycle bin
